    Ficus variolosa is a plant of Ficus in mulberry family. Zhejiang, Guizhou, Yunnan, Hunan, Guangdong, Jiangxi, Guangxi and Fujian, which are distributed in Vietnam, Laos and Chinese mainland, grow in the area of 200 meters to 1800 meters above sea level, and are mostly planted in the wet places below the stream.

   Shrub or small tree, smooth, 3-10 meters tall, gray-brown bark; short between branch nodes. Leaves thin leathery, narrowly elliptic to elliptic lanceolate, 5-12 cm long, 1.5-4 cm wide, blunt or obtuse at the tip, cuneate at the base, entire margin, 7-11 (-15) pairs of lateral veins, slightly at right angles to the midrib; petiole 6-10 mm long; stipules long triangular, about 8 mm long. Figs paired or solitary in leaf axils, spherical, 10-12 mm in diameter, with tubercles on the surface, apical bracts umbilicate, basal bracts 3, ovate triangular, slightly connate at the base, total peduncle 8-12 mm long; gall flowers are spherical, with short styles, laterally attached; female flowers born on another plant, ovary kidney-shaped, style laterally attached, slender. Gall surface with tubercles. Flowering period from December to June of the following year.
