     Ficus pyriformis , also known as banyan, is a plant of banyan genus in mulberry family. Guangdong and Fujian, which are distributed in Vietnam and Chinese mainland, grow in areas of 50 meters to 2000 meters above sea level. They are often planted in wet areas near the stream.

   Shrubs, 1-2 meters tall; small branches are rough with hair. The leaves are papery, inversely lanceolate to inversely ovate-lanceolate, 4-11(-14) centimeters long, 2-4 centimeters wide, gradually pointed or sharp at the tip and tail-like, wedge-shaped to nearly circular at the base, entire slightly curled back, light green on the surface, slightly hairy and with small wart-like dots on the back, 5-9 pairs of veins, not very prominent, short basal veins; leaf stalk hairy, 1-1.5 centimeters long; stipules lanceolate, red, hairless, about 1 centimeter long. Figs solitary in leaf axils, pear-shaped, 2-3 centimeters in diameter, hairless, with white spots; male flowers borne on the inner wall of the fig, with 3-4 tepals, lanceolate, 2 stamens, anthers oval; gall flowers with 4 tepals, linear, ovary spherical, style lateral; female flowers borne on another plant's fig inner wall, with 3-4 tepals, ovary kidney-shaped, style lateral, slender. The fruit surface has tubercles. Flowering period from December to June of the following year.Found in Guangdong (coastal islands), Fujian. Commonly found in damp areas under streamside forests. Also found in northern Vietnam.
