Description:

     Ficus triloba is an Asian species of fig tree in the family Moraceae. It is dioecious, with male and female flowers produced on separate individuals.

    This species is similar to Ficus simplicissima and synonyms include: F. simplicissima var. roxburghii, F. esquiroliana and F. hirta var. roxburghii; its native range is Sikkim to S. China, Indo-China and Sumatra.

    Small trees or shrubs, about 4-10 meters tall, with gray-brown bark that has longitudinal ridges; the young branches are hollow, covered with brownish-yellow stiff long hairs. The leaves are alternate, papery, broadly ovate, 17-27 centimeters long, 12-20 centimeters wide, sharply tapering, with a tail-like tip of about 1 centimeter, shallowly cordate at the base, sparsely covered with rough appressed long hairs on the upper surface, and covered with wavy brownish-yellow hairs about 3 millimeters long on the back, with dense yellow and gray-white pubescence along the midrib and veins, the primary lateral veins numbering 3 on each side, secondary veins 5-6 on each side, either lobed or unlobed, with fine serrations along the margins, tips of serrations covered with long hairs; petioles 5-11 centimeters long, slender, sparsely covered with long stiff hairs; stipules lanceolate, about 1-1.5 centimeters long, early deciduous. Figs axillary, conical-elliptic, 20-25 millimeters in diameter, sparsely or densely covered with light brown hairs, with a nipple-like protrusion at the top, bracts at the base ovate-lanceolate, 8 millimeters long; male flowers borne on the inner wall of the fig, stalked, with 4 tepals, entire at the apex, and 2 stamens. Gall flowers similar to male flowers, ovary spherical, smooth, style lateral, short, stigma funnel-shaped, female flowers with 4 tepals. Achenes obliquely ovoid, with tubercles on the surface. Flowering period from May to July, fruiting in July.
